With this kind of manipulation (making "designer babies"),
man makes other men his own artifacts. Man no longer originates in the
mystery of love, by means of the process of conception and birth, which
remains in the end mysterious, but is produced industrially, like any
other product. He is mad by other men. He is robbed thereby of his proper
status and of his true splendor as a created being.
Pope Benedict XVI God and the World
We are not some casual or meaningless product of evolution. Each of us
is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is
loved, each of us is necessary.
Pope Benedict XVI
Homily, Mass of Installation
Food and drink are modalities of ordinary care and not a treatment
of a disease. Discontinuing nutrition and hydration for a patient who
is not imminently dying violates in its intention the distinction between
"causing death" and "allowing death."

Bioethical Principals of Medical Practice
Man has within him the breath of God. He is capable of relating to
God; he can pass beyond material creation. He is unique. He stands in
the sight of God and is in a special sense directed toward God.
It is most important to see this special creation by God in order to
perceive the uniqueness and value of man and, thereby, the basis of
all human rights. This gives man a reverence for himself and others.
God's breath is within Him. He sees that he is not a combination of
biological building blocks, but a personal conception of God.
Civil progress cannot derive from the social devaluation of marriage and
from the loss of respect for the inviolable dignity of human life. What
appears as the progress of civilization and scientific conquest, in many
cases is, in fact a defeat for human dignity and society.
Pope John Paul II
It is necessary to raise the awareness in public opinion that the elderly
represent, in any case, a resource to be valued. For this reason, economic
support and legislative initiatives, which allow them not to be excluded
from social life, must be strengthened.
Pope John Paul II
Message for Lent 2005
To build a culture of life, we must also ensure that scientific advances
always serve human dignity, not take advantage of some lives for the benefit
of others. We should all be able to agree on some clear standards. I will
work with Congress to ensure that human embryos are not created for experimentation
or grown for body parts, and that human life is never bought and sold
as a commodity.
President George W. Bush
State of the Union Address, 2005
